Security at every step

How we protect you

We start with your card.
Your TCF debit card is chip-enabled and features industry standard encryption and multilayer authentication, which means it’s designed to keep your account safe. When using your card at a chip-enabled payment terminal, the embedded chip generates a unique code for your transaction that can’t be used again.

Because each transaction gets a unique code, your card number and personal information are better protected.

Your phone adds security.
You can also use Apple Pay®, Google Pay™ and Samsung Pay to make secure purchases at your favorite stores. When you use these options, your debit card number is never shared with the merchant.

We keep an eye on your activity.
As an added level of security, we monitor account activity and notify you if we suspect fraudulent transactions. In some cases we will decline transactions we believe to be fraudulent.

If your card is compromised, we’ve got you covered with zero fraud liability:
This means you won’t be held responsible for fraudulent charges made with your card.

How you can protect yourself

There are lots of ways you can work to keep your account even more secure.

  • Sign the back of your debit card as soon as you receive it.
  • Actively monitor account activity and keep an eye out for suspicious transactions.
  • Set up alerts in digital banking.
  • Don’t share your account information with anyone who calls you, and never write down your PIN where it could be seen by others.
  • Use mobile payment options to pay with your phone at merchants.
  • Sign up for online statements so paper statements aren’t delivered to your mailbox, where they could be stolen or lost.
