Using a coin machine

Before you begin, please make sure that coins are dry and remove any silver dollar coins—most coin machines don’t accept them. Then follow these simple steps.

  1. Press start and add your coins into the top of the machine. Some machines have a tray you lift up on one side, so the coins slide into the sorter.
  2. Wait for the machine to sort and tally the change, and then print and remove the receipt showing the total value of your coins.
  3. Don’t forget to check the dispenser below for any coins that may have been rejected.
  4. Take the receipt to a team member at a teller window, and they’ll trade the receipt for cash. Or you can deposit the amount right into your account. If you do not have a TCF account, you will be charged an 8.9 percent fee.
Please note: If a branch doesn’t have a coin machine, we can still help by counting your coins manually. There will just be an 8.9 percent fee for both customers and non-customers. Thanks for understanding.
