Your chip-enabled TCF Debit Card gives you three ways to pay in person - wave, insert or swipe at a payment terminal. Chip technology does not change the way you pay online or by phone.
When you see payment terminals with the contactless symbol, just wave your card above to pay.
If the payment terminal does not have a contactless option but is chip-enabled, you will need to insert your card.
If a merchant isn't using a chip-enabled terminal just swipe your card. Chip technology will not be used to process the transaction.
Online or on the phone
Chip-enabled debit cards will not change the way payments are made online or by phone. You will still provide your card information as you have done in the past and chip technology won't be used to process the transaction.
When using your card at a chip-enabled payment terminal, the embedded chip in your card generates a unique code for your transaction that can’t be used again. This provides better protection of your card number and personal information, making it more difficult for fraudsters to get and use.
Protection if fraud does occur
You are protected with zero fraud liability for unauthorized use of your card. This means you won’t be held responsible for fraudulent charges made with your card.
