What do I need to open a TCF account online?
  • To be 18 years or older
  • To be a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident alien
  • Driver's license, State ID, U.S. Passport or U.S. Military ID
  • A mailing address in Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Colorado, Arizona, North Dakota, Florida, or Iowa
  • Previous home address (if you have lived at your home address less than 2 years)
  • U.S. Social Security Number
  • A valid e-mail address so you can save your application to complete later
  • Credit or debit card or U.S. checking or savings account to fund the account

What information do I need to open a joint account?
  • Joint applicants require the same set of information.
  • To be 18 years or older
  • To be a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident alien
  • Driver's license, State ID, U.S. Passport or U.S. Military ID
  • A mailing address in Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Colorado, or Arizona if you are not a current TCF Online Banking customer
  • Previous home address (if you have lived at your home address less than 2 years)
  • U.S. Social Security Number
  • Credit or debit card or U.S. checking or savings account to fund the account
  • To be present through the application process since we will ask you both security questions to verify your identities

Can I open an account if I am not a U.S. Citizen?
  • If you are not a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Resident Alien, you are unable to apply online.
  • If you would like to open an account, you will need to visit a TCF Bank Location.

  • Everyday debit card transactions include one-time non-recurring electronic transactions using your TCF debit card.
